About the Show:

In this month known for the twin virtues of love and sharing, we celebrate new work from ceramic artist Robin Hominiuk and fiber artist Jacki Moseley.  Robin, a Northwest potter who has shown in our gallery for many years, is now living close by in Seattle and continues to surprise us with both functional and sculptural ceramic vessels.  Her specialty is woodfire and she fires in both Washington and Oregon.  Jacki is a relative newcomer now living on Bainbridge Island; she experiments with sculptural felting, as wall art and vessels. Her latest work focuses on Joomchi or Korean paper felting using Mulberry paper and silk formed into wall sculptures.  An art piece from Robin or Jacki is a perfect memento for your special Valentine!

The Jenny Davis Jazz Duo will supply the music for the opening Reception, and L’Atelier TR is back with more edible art.  Tamas and Tae create delicacies for happy and expectant visitors to the gallery and it is always a wonderful surprise - we have been given a hint that chocolate is involved… (come early!)

About the Artists

Robin Hominiuk, Seattle
Robin was born in Canada and moved to the United States in 1998.  She received her clay education via community education courses and several terms at Mt. Hood Community College.  She regularly attends workshops to keep a fresh perspective and learn new techniques.  In addition to the beautiful functional pots she produces from her studio kiln, she also creates pottery and sculpture for wood firing.  These pots are fired in huge kilns based on ancient Japanese traditions.  The pots are fired for 70 plus hours with a committed group of potters and six to eight cords of wood.  Pottery fired in this intense method is transformed by flame and ash; the colors and marks cannot be replicated or produced in any other way. Robin’s work has been featured in numerous national and international collections.

Jacki Moseley, Bainbridge Island

Jacki began felting in 2012 after being attracted to the texture and dimension of felt for many years – fascinated by its properties, how to make it, and how to make things with it. She has most enjoyed making bowls, vessels and wall hangings. She also worked with beads, sewing them onto her creations, which are made with merino wool. She uses both wet and needle felting processes, where the wool fibers become intertwined to create a design and/or a form.

Edible Art:

L’Atelier TR

Where does one go to find Edible Art on Bainbridge Island and the Northwest?  To L’Atelier TR in Three Tree Lane, where owner Chef Tamas Ronyai and Pastry Chef Tae Tran create chocolates and European pastries. Tamas is an 11-year resident of Bainbridge and this “Atelier” is a dream come true.  Having worked as a chef around the world and competed on the international culinary stage his passion has always been chocolate and pastry.  Tamas has trained with some of the world’s best chocolatiers and pastry chefs in France, Belgium, Montreal and Chicago.  “I will never stop learning as long as I am on this planet.”  Tamas and Tae are well known to Gallery patrons as they do specialties for our Artwalks.

Music:

The Jenny Davis Jazz Duo

Jenny Davis, M.F.A. - jazz vocalist, composer, arranger and educator - has pleased audiences here at the gallery for several years. During the February Artwalk Elliott “Kirk” Kuykendall accompanies Jenny on upright bass.

A Seattle native, Jenny Davis earned her Bachelor of Music from the prestigious Cornish College of the Arts.  A 20-year steward of straight-ahead jazz, she actively performs throughout the U.S. and Canada in clubs, festivals and jazz venues.  A true original with an authentic sound, Jenny has that rare vocal ability to swing hard in the pocket and hold her own with the best musicians in the business.  Jenny’s commitment to the art form is never more evident than in her third and newest CD release “INSIDE YOU”, where legendary jazz composer Rodgers Grant sought her to record his beautiful ballad “Morning Glory”.  A versatile vocalist, she is highly requested and is considered one of the Pacific Northwest’s top big band vocalists.  A passionate steward of jazz, Jenny passes on the tradition as a jazz educator, and vocal coach.  Davis is inspired by such great jazz vocalists as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Mel Tormé, Shirley Horn, June Christy and Kurt Elling.
